Re: which os for the freerunner
which android do you use for now? cupcake or froyo? i don't know cupcake (anymore), but qtmoko is faster than froyo (just from feeling, i didn't measuring it). :) if you don't know it: you could have more than one system on your moko, so it's easy to try.. ;) ----------------------------------------------- tom schrieb am Freitag 31 Dezember 2010: hi, i bought the freerunner a while ago only because of android, but got quickly disapointed by the lack of speed. is qtmoto ...

Re: which os for the freerunner
Hi, Tom, Here QtMoko is instant. The feeling of touchscreen is much better with .34's driver without filtering, i never have that 'missing' clicks than i have to reclick which were real pain (for me) on early openmoko. I don't know if Radek supply Qi with 2-4-2, but i am using 2-4-2 bootloader, and in fact scrolling is smooth (except inital loading pictures, but it's acceptable even in that moment) and response to clicks is just ...

Re: which os for the freerunner
i did try cupcakes. since i dont have any experience with qt, i was just wondering how the 'under the finger scroll/touch/response' speed is. not sure if real numbers would make such a decision easier ;-) thx !!!

Re: which os for the freerunner
Hi Tom. Android on FreeRunner is pretty new, as is Replicant on FreeRunner. QtMoko is fairly stable and responsive. It improves every release. I've been using v26 for a while and was planning to install v31 later today. One thing of note: qtmoko leaves contacts on the SIM which can be slow (there is some local storage for numbers you have added on the phone itself). If you don't find QtMoko to your liking you can try out SHR or Hackable::1, etc. There's some choice here - an amount that's ...

Re: which os for the freerunner
Hi, Tom, Just try it. And which version of android you tried? I think 2-4-2 (since September probably) and FIFO depth (since something like Ferbruary 2010) improved speed significantly, so may be worth trying newer version of android. [UK] Experience with Vectone SIM?
I noticed today - http://www.vectonemobile.co.uk/ - what looks like an excellent PAYG deal for the Freerunner in the UK, because for £5 per month it means you can leave your GPRS on all the time, for random small bits of internet usage. I've sent off for one of their SIMs, but I wonder (1) if anyone else already has experience with them, and (2) if there is any existing support for tracking GPRS usage and alerting or disconnecting when it reaches a configured total. (I have no connection at ...

Re: Good evening to everyone
not sure, make sure you set usb to host most in dev tools, if that's not it maybe go to log level 8 and get some more detailed info about what's wrong? You can do this in the kernel parameters in /boot/append or in QI just press Go to software packages and download the mp3 codec, then execute the file that shows up in applications. Suddenly media player will read mp3s in ~/Documents You can add debian unstabled repos and see if there is anything there, I would Please document if you do ...

Good evening to everyone
Hello guys, I got my FreeRunner few weeks ago and since that I'm having fun discovering it :-) I had been trying OM, SHR, Debian, Android, QtMoko and decided to stay with Qtmoko. I have v26,v30 and now v31 installed on several uSD cards (v31 is in NAND memory). Although QtMoko seems quite usable for Freerunner, there are still some points where I'd like to ask you for help. But I'm already using FR with QtMoko as my primary phone and its doing well :-) 1/ USB Host is not working in ...

Re: Good evening to everyone
The FreeRunner's USB port can be switched from device to host separately on the data and power pins, so my guess is that you set its data pins to host mode but left the power in device mode, which means that the FR will not provide power via USB but will expect to pull power from it instead (this is typically used together with a tweaked USB hub powered from a power brick). Thank you ! Please see my comments inside... Hrabosh: I pressed the power button (a have v31 on the NAND memory, thus not able to use /boot/append because Qi is not reading UBI FS .. right?) and saw kernel messages scrolling down the screen- simmilar to what I can see when my Linux computer is booting. USB device (ethernet mode) works fine. If i switch the phone to USB host mode (by running the script in dev tools), message in kernel log appears: [131.660000] s3c2410: changing USB to ...

Re: QtMoko v31
Hi Radek I don't have any comment on v31 in general as I haven't tried it very long yet. I though have some comment on the Danish translation as it looks like some of the files doesn't get build, primarily those with 'Qtopia' in their name and I think there are some 7 files missing as I did translate 88 but there are 'only' 81 in the folder. I will probably do some testing now and return in the new year. :-) -- Ole @ ...

Re: QtMoko v31
Well done ! As to the keyboard: I really appreciate having arrow keys there (because of command history in Terminal). If you hit the very left key in the second row, another keys (end,home,arrows..) shows up - but the same keys ale already in the default keyboard, so now they are present twice. What about replacing these by F1-F10 keys? BTW ... I§m the only one having difficulties using USB host mode in v31? Zb. _______________________________________________ Openmoko community mailing ...

Fantastic stuff; I've placed an order. I understand that there are lots of caveats, and to be honest I'm not sure what they add up to, and what my expectations can reasonably be. But I can spare the money, and I think you and your team deserve support. Wikireader Hitchhiker's Guide Splash
As a new year's treat I threw together some instructions on how to flash your Wikireader with a modified boot rom that will give you a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Don't Panic splash screen. Usual caveats apply. You can brick your machine doing this, so be careful. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NEhmivcAWBXV4KigVak8SjAiWxaB7aors4Ehzfs62TM/edit?h... _______________________________________________ Openmoko community mailing ...
