Check out santools software. The SCSI Enclosure Services functionality not only lets you monitor and enumerate the various elements such as alarms & LEDs, but it gives you full control of them ... (Great if you have a JBOD array and the alarm has been going off continuously for days 'cause you can't bring it down for maintenance work).

Since this particular post is about an AIC autochanger, the software will also monitor the "SMART" equivalent for tape drives called TapeAlert -- so you get predictive failure and warnings about tape mechanism.
