Friday the 13th struck...I was changing the oil in my Suzuki GS500F, and as I was putting the oil filter cover back on, and cinching up the acorn nuts, I broke one of the studs that holds the filter. Of course, that really sucks, because now I either have to wait on a replacement stud, or try and get one after midnight.
Since it took me a while to find any meaningful information about this problem, other than the fact that breaking an oil filter stud is pretty common on the GS500, I figured I'd share what I did. Autozone sells a stud that will do the job. It's an M6-1.0 X 27mm double ended stud, which leaves it a bit shorter than the factory one, but there is enough thread on the side that goes into the engine, that it will work. The part number is 675-315.1.
Filter Studs
Did someone say, Replacement Stud? *grins and cheezy flex*
Did Josh borrow the bike again afterward? Clearly, it was his riding style that broke the stud. :)
