Going to describe this entry a bit later, but in short "ubuntu server edition can't be plain installed on a server via serial console connection, but with custom made iso/cdrom, which is not always an option".
1) https://bugs.launchpad.net/null/+bug/489215
don't discuss this entry here, better go to bug-report URL and put your thoughts there.
2) how useful is "splash image" bootloader option for servers, which are managed over a serial console? Every time I'm removing it, a usual update to server kernel which is upstream distributed (via aptitude/apt-get upgrade) insists to add it again and again. Don't ask me about "serial console", because almost all branded servers has it, i.e. HP ilom, IBM rsa, SUN sp/lom, DELL drac, etc...
3) going to post update on "installation over serial console" later.
your blog is useless for admins
so you tried to install one version and one -- in your case -- important feature didn't work, and instead of handling the situation in a grown-up way (file the error with ubuntu's bug tracking system to get it fixed sometimes, find some work around for the time being: fix the broken package and distribute for others to use or ask others to do the same, or find another distro) you declare this making all versions of this distro unusable for everyone. what a service to the community and the people involved..
it's the PEBCAK problem again
it's the PEBCAK problem again

Or shorter: "Ubuntu doesn't gives a f*ck about servers"
